Class began with bōshurikenjutsu, before moving on to taijutsu drills, Kihon Happō Ukemi and tenkai practice. For the taijutsu segment we moved onto the 13th kata of Kotō Ryū Shoden, Shihaku. The correct use of angles for each Jōdan uke was stressed as was the ‘koppō’ of the final strike.
After a quick break we moved onto Kasugai from the Kukishin Ryū Bikenjutsu kata, along with the first sayugyaku, achieving the right distance for the kiai and the footwork of the cuts was emphasized.
We’ll be hosting Luke Molitor for a 2 day seminar in Dublin, April 2014, on Kukishin Ryū Bikenjutsu. Be there!
