Hanbō, Tsukekomi, Hichō No Ken, Kaisetsu Gata & Jūmonji

Martial Arts Dundrum Dublin 16
高松先生- 槍術

Class began with bō-shurikenjutsu, followed by a review of the kamae, tai sabaki and strikes of Hanbōjutsu, before covering the first two kata of the Hanbō shoden, Katate Uchi and Tsuki Otoshi, looking at the use of positioning and moguri gata. After this we moved onto the kihon of kenjutsu, looking at basic cutting and thrusting, before reviewing Tsukekomi and Sayugyaku with additional details, emphasizing the riai of the kata, and the differences between applications in Kacchu Kenpō and Suhada Kenpō.

After a quick break we looked at another iteration of Hichō No Ken from the kodachi kata and some applications, before covering the first two kata from the Sōjutsu Kaisetsu Gata, looking at the various ways Aite’s uke gata can change and illuminate the kata. Finally we covered Jūmonji, emphasizing the role of Aite, which in turn informs the ma-ai and sabaki of Tori.
