Battōjutsu, Kenjutsu Kihon & Kukishinden Kenpō

初見先生 - 秘剣
初見先生 – 秘剣

Class began with a review of battōjutsu, working through drawing vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and powering the draw and strike with the body movement. From here we reviewed a selection of different kata in order of difficulty, working on the footwork and alignments of the various draws. After this quickly worked through some of the basic etiquette, kamae, cutting and thrusting, before reviewing basic uke gata.

With this groundwork we review the Tsukekomi and Sayugyaku, working through the various iterations and hiden, emphasizing the timing, distancing, intention and feeling of each, while keeping the structure and alignment found in the initial kihon.
